PS3 connectivity and other stuff?

I have a lot of questions about my ps3's connections and how to set them up. I tried to look for sites that explain it more but i couldn't find much.

1) Is it possible to use the ps3 as an access point for a psp to get on the net w/o remote play? I've done a scan with it and it picks up the ps3 signal but i can never use it.

1.1) If i changed the wpa key, would that allow me to use it or would it only affect remote play?

2) What is the point of remote play? I tried it and I couldn't play games; only use internet or chat.

2.1) Can remote play ever play games?

3) What does life with playstation do to your ps3? I read the tiny description and though it said you can use it to see the news and stuff like it, it said that it becomes part of a network. Could someone be able to get onto my ps3 and mess it up or does the network invade privacy?

4)How do you download videos/movies directly to the hdd? I read somewhere that you may need to create a file in the hdd, how do you do that? Which sites can you download from?

5) Which sites can you directly download music from for free?

6) How, if possible, can you connect the ps3 to your computer? And what could you do when connected?

7) How does the hdd get upgraded? And what would it be able to do once it is?Can an upgrade for the 40gb allow reverse compatibility?

8) How, besides extra memory, is the 160gb model better than the others?

9) How do you switch the os?

9.1) What benefits/disadvantages can switching the os have?

Please include instructions and be detailed. I konw that this may be asking too much and i apologize for it. Thank you all!PS3 connectivity and other stuff?
1) Yes. If you can get an Access Point for your PSP to have internet, and have set Remote Play up correctly, then you can use the PS3's web browser to surf the web.

2) The point of remote is that you can access your Photos, Music, Videos and view friends from somewhere else in the world. It's a way of entertaining yourself.

2.1) You can't play any PS3 games on the PSP. You can some PSP games on the PS3 though. Nothing will change with the PSP-GO. It uses the same OS as the current PSP-3000.

3) Life at PlayStation contributes to helping a university complete their research on something. You can use it to see the news, the weather - all live. NO ONE can get into your PS3 with Life At PlayStation. It isn't possible.

4) On some sites, you can download videos. You can try and download videos on the PS3 and it will save it AUTOMATICALLY to a folder named something. e.g: ';July 2009...'; et.

5) I'm not sure.

6) You can't connect it a computer. You can connect it to a computer moniter though with a VGA to HDMI convertor.

7)You can swap the PS3's HDD for a bigger HDD with more space. This space allows you to store more video, pictures and music. It will also let you save more game data.

Upgrading to a 40GB HDD will NOT give you backwards. Backwards compatility is all in the Hardware. The PS3 uses software emulation to play PS2 games. It won't come in the HDD.

8) The only good thing about the 160GB model is the extra space. Nothing else. It's not really special than the other models. I think it comes with a game included. I'm not sure.

9) You can download Yellow Dog Linux to install on the PS3. Doing this will erase your PS3 OS.

9.1) It depends what you want it to do.

One thing - you can't use the PS3 controller for another OS on the PS3. You must use a Keyboard and mouse.

You're welcome.PS3 connectivity and other stuff?
Yes i will also just take my two to
1) I don't know

2) with the PSP GO! maybe

3) I think that is how Playstation Home displays.

4) You purchase them from the PSN, or you copy them from an external HDD.

5) not answering

6) you need a capture card, you would use your PS3's default av connectors, and plug them to the capture card rather than the tv.

7) You simply slide the hard drive out the left side (from the front view), and put a bigger one in. (memory, not physical size)

- No you cannot swap the hdd for backwards compatibility. The compatibility is not stored on the hdd, it's on the mb.

8) no the 160gb is other than the hdd identical to the 40gb and the 80gb g2 (not motorstorm or metal gear solid). The 60gb and the 80gb (motorstorm or metal gear bundle) are the best models, they have the card reader, 4 usb slots, PS2 compatibiltiy, etc)

9) You simply burn a PS3 Ubuntu iso to the disk, place it into the ps3's disk drive. Go under system, there should be a install other OS somewhere in the sub menus. The benefit is that you get FireFox, much better browser. Disadvantage is the ram limit, the PS3 doesn't have a whole lot of it.
1.-2.1- I don't know much about remote play. Just that you can't use it as a controller for games and you can get PSP stuff on the PSN and download it to your PSP.

3.- Life with Playstation is basically what the old Folding @Home is. You contribute your PS3 power to servers for calculations and things like that. Its for a good cause and no one will invade your privacy. It also gives you news from major cities around the world. Its powered by Google and Google Earth.

4.- I don't download videos so I dunno.

5.- That is illegal and your ISP may report you to authorities if you do it often enough. I do not know of any site that allows free downloads to the PS3.

6.- You can sync your PS3 with a PC to transfer media files to the PS3.

7.- The process on hard drive swaps can be Googled. I believe Sony includes instructions as well. Any 2.5 SATA laptop hard drive that spins at 5400 RPMs works. Hard drive upgarade has nothing to do with reverse compatibility in any way.

8.- It isn't. Well, it includes Uncharted, but that's it.

9.- Linux is the only other OS you can install. If you have a PC, don't bother installing Linux on your PS3. The PS3 may act like a PC, but its far from being one.
1:no 2:u can control basic functions of your ps3 nd play ps1 games 3:life with playstation contributes to some hospitals network 2 find cures for diseases 4:havent a clue 5:now dats illegal so i wouldent know 6:u can share music, video and picture between pc nd ps3 7:you have to actualy change the hard drive at the side to give you more memory u cannot get backward comp by doing this 8:dont think so 9:very complicated not going to explain 9.1:u dont switch op you install another os e.g lineux
