How do I get a multilayer LAN match over the same wireless network working?

My friend and I are both on the same wireless network (i.e. we're about 10 feet apart), and we're interesting playing a 2-player LAN match of C%26amp;C3: Tiberium Wars. We disabled our firewalls, and we can see each other on the WINDOWS network. However, when we go into the C%26amp;C3 multilayer mode in ';Network play';, we can't see each others computers.

We were able to have matches before, so we know its just a configuration issue. One of the key differences between last time and this time is that under OPTIONS - NETWORK in the game, we were both able to change our IP from the regular home address of 192.168.1.xx to something like 169.254.x.x , this time, only my computer can, and his cannot. Both of these IP address have significance (i.e. they are not random), so Im guessing its an configuration issue.

The issue isn't only native to Command and Conquer, and is probably the same for any other programs or games as well. Therefore, your expertise in networking is appreciated. Thanks! How do I get a multilayer LAN match over the same wireless network working?
you should both have similar ip addresses. your friend's account must be limited or has a virus that he can't change his ip. have that checked.
