';acquiring ip address'; problem? HELP!!!!!!!?

I asked this the other day but got no response and I have no idea what to do.

I have a DELL desktop computer, using SP2, Home Edition XP. I have wireless linksys-G USB network adapter. One computer has the cable box and router sitting with it and the router will send signal to the other computer in another room. The computer that has the cabel box and router is fine and connecting good except for earlier today but it's fine now. At the same time, the other computer that had the wireless card wouldn't connect at all and it still won't. I called for help and been told to right click on the computer icon where the red x was. Then I viewed the listed available networking and tried to connect. I was asked to put in a network key. So I put that in and it seemed to solve the problem.

Few minutes later after I thought I had everything solved, the problem started again. I tried putting in the network key again and this time, it won't connect at all. It keeps saying ';acquiring network address'; and it's been doing that for a long time with no change at all. I don't understand why it worked before but it won't now. I cannot connect to the internet on that computer now. The signal says it is low which is nothing new, it always says low but the number or signal strength number would indicate how the signal is doing. The signal would be around 1.0 or 2.0. The highest number I ever got was 36 which is really great.

I already tried shutting down my computer a few times, including when I unplugged the cable and router for a few minutes then plugged it back in. No luck.

I am not a very technical person so please explain what I can do in steps in words that are easy to understand.

Thanks';acquiring ip address'; problem? HELP!!!!!!!?
Hi Big boy,

I think your case is based on wireless security mode. First you should check your which is the wireless security mode is used in wireless Router Eg:128-bit WEP Encryption, WPA Security, then set same wireless security mode in your computer, after try to connect. please let me know the result';acquiring ip address'; problem? HELP!!!!!!!?
I cant seem to figure out what the problem could be...
