Internet Questions - Netgear WEP?

So I was trying to connect my Nintendo DS to my internet... but it said the security access points were not supported. Or something along those lines. So I went on the Nintendo DS site and it said i have to change the security options for my router to WEP. It gave me this site to go to and it was about my Netgear router settings (DG834G). I went to wireless settings and under security options, a bubble was filled in which meant it was WPA-PSK (Wi-Fi Protected Access Pre-Shared Key). I clicked the WEP option and it a box came up asking me to generate a WEP key passphrase. I made one and it gave me 4 keys underneath. I went to get some paper and a pen to write them down, but I came back and my laptop was disconnected. The only computer that works with the internet is the one which wasn't using wireless, but instead connected by a cord. I switched the security options back to the WPA-PSK setting. But when I tried to reconnect to my laptop, it asked for a network key. I typed that in but it constantly says acquiring network address. No matter what I do it won't connect to the internet. How do I make it connect again? If you need any further details ask and I will answer.Internet Questions - Netgear WEP?

';acquiring ip address'; problem?

I have a DELL desktop computer, using SP2, Home Edition XP. I have wireless linksys-G USB network adapter. One computer has the cable box and router sitting with it and the router will send signal to the other computer in another room. The computer that has the cabel box and router is fine and connecting good except for earlier today but it's fine now. At the same time, the other computer that had the wireless card wouldn't connect at all and it still won't. I called for help and been told to right click on the computer icon where the red x was. Then I viewed the listed available networking and tried to connect. I was asked to put in a network key. So I put that in and it seemed to solve the problem.

Few minutes later after I thought I had everything solved, the problem started again. I tried putting in the network key again and this time, it won't connect at all. It keeps saying ';acquiring network address'; and it's been doing that for a long time with no change at all. I don't understand why it worked before but it won't now. I cannot connect to the internet on that computer now. The signal says it is low which is nothing new, it always says low but the number or signal strength number would indicate how the signal is doing. The signal would be around 1.0 or 2.0. The highest number I ever got was 36 which is really great.

I already tried shutting down my computer a few times, including when I unplugged the cable and router for a few minutes then plugged it back in. No luck.

I am not a very technical person so please explain what I can do in steps in words that are easy to understand.

Thanks';acquiring ip address'; problem?
I had the same problem. If your internet was working before just set your laptop to a previous date when it was working. to do this:

1. go to start%26gt;all programmes

2.go to accessories

3.go to system tools

4.go to system restore

5. choose restore my computer to a previous date

6.choose the date it was last working and follow the steps from there

THIS WILL DELETE ALL THE FILES YOU HAVE CREATED OR CHANGED AFTER THE DATE YOU HAVE CHOSEN

hope this helps =)

Hi Big boy,

I think your case is based on wireless security mode. First you should check your which is the wireless security mode is used in wireless Router Eg:128-bit WEP Encryption, WPA Security, then set same wireless security mode in your computer, after try to connect. please let me know the result';acquiring ip address'; problem? I cant seem to figure out what the problem could be...

Move closer to the router, perhaps?

How do I change Windows drive icons?

In Windows XP (it may still happen in Vista, but I haven't yet observed it), I remember that, for empty memory card slots, the drive icon in My Computer would be washed out. If I would put a card into that drive, the icon would appear in full color. In the system Registry (or in Disk Management or anywhere else), is there a way to set this up? (in regedit, I am looking at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\DriveIco?) This way, I'll have Icon A appear when there's nothing in the drive, and Icon B appear when I put a card in the drive. Thanks for the help!

NOTE: I am using Windows Vista Home Premium. The Registry key I mentioned early SEEMS to work exactly as it did in Windows XP, but I could be wrong.

ANOTHER NOTE: I am planning to use this on drives that do not neccesarily appear in Disk Management (ex: network memory card drives). If your method absolutely must use Disk Management and/or not work with network drives, then do post it, but otherwise try to avoid this kind of problem.

A third note (of slightly less significance): I used this article from PC Magazine to learn how to set up icons in the registry. It does not address my issue with having two icons for a drive. http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,202How do I change Windows drive icons?
To change the icon displayed within explorer for a drive requires changes to the windows registry.

    1. Create (if it does not already exist) the registry key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ Windows\ CurrentVersion\ Explorer\ DriveIcons\ X\ DefaultIcon

where 'X' is the drive letter of the drive for which you wish to change the drive icon.

    2. Change the key's default value to hold the fully qualified name of the icon file (e.g. 'c:\myicons\cdrive.ico').

If the file contains more than one icon then follow it with a comma and the zero-based index of the icon (e.g. 'c:\myicons\mylib.dll,2').

    3. To see the effect restart Windows - although, depending on the version of windows simply refreshing the window might be sufficient.

    How to change router setting.?

we just got a wireless router awhile back and i wanted to set it up so no one could connect to our network via WI FI, the default setting was set on WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy), and i wanted to put it on WPA-PSK (Wi-Fi Protected Access Pre-Shared Key) with a password of my choice, the router and modem are both down in my basement, and the wireless adaptor is upstairs on our 2nd pc, but when i put it on the WPA-PSK setting i had internet down here still but not upstairs, my question is how can i put it on that setting so no one can get on my network and still get my connection upstairs? How to change router setting.?
    1. Connect your computer to one of the LAN ports on the router. (or Wirelessly)

    2. Open your web browser and type in 192.168.1.1. Press Enter

3.If it asks you for login information it is the following:

    NETGEAR ROUTERS:

    Login: admin

    Password: password

    LINKSYS ROUTERS

    Login: admin

    Password: admin

    4. Click on Wireless Settings

    5. Select the WPA-PSK option. And Enter a passphrase. Make it something you can easily remember, but it hard for someone else to guess. It should be between 8 - 63 characters. (BobTheBuilderIsGreatFun would be a great passphrase for instance!)

    6.Make sure you hit Apply

    7. Restart ALL computers you are connecting to the router.

    If the computer is WIRED:

    1. Plug it into the Network Interface Card in the back of the PC first, then the LAN interface on the back of the router.

    2. Repeat the Same with all PC's connecting with Ethernet wire.

    3. Boot the PC.

    4. Go to your Network Connection Center, and try to connect to the network. You should be prompted for a passphrase or WPA Key. Just be sure you type it EXACTLY how you set it up in the router.

Bingo! you should be connected AND secure! :-)How to change router setting.?
Your up stairs computer is still trying to connect to it via WEP and its not reconizing it. Scan for a new network, click the network and then push WPA instead of WEP and try that. If its not working go to control panel-network connections and delete the wireless one named after your network and try again. (I believe you open network settings, right click wifi connection, then properties i could be wrong)

Also be sure your SSID broadcast is on, otherwise you have to maneully input the network name while you set up. I suggest you turn it off when you get things going though, makes it so its hard to find. You can also turn on MAC adress filtering if you feel the need to but it gets a bit complicated to explain.

    THE BIG NETWORK QUERRIES!!?

Sorry in advance for the mass nature of the query, and for the randomness of my typing.

I am with virgin 10mb and i always lag.

I recently purchased a Belkin N router, upgrading form a G Belkin router. And some how my connection on my Ps3 and XBox 360 has gotten worse. From a near constant 100% on my ps3 i get 85 at the best and a moderate NAT on the Xbox.

I have had problems with every 15 minutes i loose connection, could this be a fault with the router or the settings if so what can i do?

    (refresh rate perhaps)

So, is this possible should i go back to the old one or what if anything can i change?

For both consoles have activated DMZ, with no success, should i have dine this?

WPA'; or WPA-PSK key? does it matter.?

    TKIP or AES or both?

And what settings would help the Xbox ( My brothers)

For the PS3 i have connected the settings manually,

manual IP, open DNS should this of helped?

Should i keep the MTU on automatic or 1500?

should i keep the Ip adress on auto and the others manual or the combination or all?

Can anyone help at all, i've had rela problems with this.

thank you =)THE BIG NETWORK QUERRIES!!?
check your speed first at www.speedtest.net/

and check if you really got 10meg

also put a WEP/WPA code on your router incase someone is using your internet without your knowledge.

then try out your ps3 or xbox 360 online.

but best if you use wired connection as wireless sucks.

  • How do i change my router from secure to open?

my comp said it was having a problem with the profile and suggested deleting that one and creating a new one. so i deleted and tried to create a new profile and got to the first password, a device ownership password. i don't remember putting one in in the first place but where it says to look on the router to find it i couldn't find one. i tried like 7 or 8 0's and that got me through. it then asked for network name and security type which both were set. it also asked for the password (key) which i tried putting in and it wouldn't accept. i've gotten fed up and decided to try changing the security type on my router to open. how do i go about doing this on a d-link router ???How do i change my router from secure to open?
The easiest way to fix this problem is by just resetting the router and recreating your network. Push in the reset button on the router and hold it. This will erase all settings and it will be as it was when it came out of the box. Set up new network without encryption and you are ready to go. Good luck!!!

How to connect laptop to a linksys wireless router?

I recently bought a Linksys 2.4 GHz Wireless N router. I hooked it up to my desktop and it works fine (slightly slower than when the PC was hooked directly to the model, but that's another story).

I set it up to work wirelessly with my laptop, but that's where the problem is. I renamed the network to something I was familiar with like the installation told me to, and I set the password key. When I tell my laptop to view available networks in range I can see the network, and it has full bars, but when I click on it and try to connect it says it is unable to connect.

I have used the laptop to connect wirelessly before plenty of times, on a number of different networks. It's a Compaq computer, maybe 2-3 years old, running XP.

Any settings or configurations I should try to change? The booklet that came with the router told me how to connect to the desktop, which I did, but it didn't say much more.

Thanks! How to connect laptop to a linksys wireless router?
The problem you have generally is because the network name is already set in the ';preferred'; networks and the security key does not match.

The fix is to remove that network name from the list of wireless networks, then reconnect to it! You system will then ask for the key and you can setup the correct one.

IN XP Open the view wireless networks panel, click on advanced settings, then in the network panel click on the

Wireless networks tab..Just remove the network SSID from the list.

Then renew the view available networks and reconnect.

If you set a WPA setting you may have to change to WEP..if your laptop card does not support WPA some older cards do not support the newer security settings! How to connect laptop to a linksys wireless router?
Make sure you are putting in the WEP or password key.

The WEP is used to keep other people from using your connection so make sure you are putting that in right.

    Hope this helps.
Are you positive you have ADMIN rights? Also are you using one of those wireless utilities that come with so many laptops these days
did you install the wireless router and modem and service provider into your laptop?you can run a cable [10/100] hooked to your router and to your desktop and run wireless to other units.try setting up with no key first and make sure your settinngs are the same on all units.

Is critical thinking the key to curing global warming denialism?

Jonathan Abrams, a right-wing libertarian and contributor to a general skeptic blog, describes how he came to recently support the scientific consensus on global warming. What I notice is his skepticism faded when he started to critically analyze the skeptical arguments.

    http://network.nationalpost.com/np/blogs…

Before any discussion of global warming (or climate change if you prefer) can begin, one unfortunately is expected to state up front if they accept it or are a skeptic. So my disclosure is that I currently accept anthropogenic (i.e. human caused) Global Warming (AGW) as a scientific fact, despite considering myself a 'skeptic' in general. I wasn't born believing that AGW is real though. When I first heard of AGW years ago, it was through the mainstream media. I got the impression from the media that there was a strong legitimate debate about the veracity of AGW. At first I did not know what to believe, but suspected that humans weren't the cause of global warming, if it was happening at all. I never much liked the environmentalism movement and was therefore skeptical of all their claims, whether they made sense or were hyperbolic. As I got more involved with the skeptical community, I learned which sources were trustworthy and which were less so on various scientific issues. I also learned about the non-rational psychological processes that can lead people to believe or not believe certain ideas. But honestly, I do not know exactly when, how, or why my views changed, but it's interesting to briefly look back and examine why I did not accept AGW, and perhaps it can give us some clues as to why others still don't.

I find that most people that are skeptical of global warming do not have good rational reasons for their skepticism. According to a recent article in my local paper (originally from Agence France-Presse), people do not accept global warming because it would negatively impact their desire to consume. I think this theory may help explain some AGW doubt. People do not want to feel guilty about their habits. In order to assuage guilt, we either attempt to fix the cause of the guilt, which takes effort, or we deny that the problem exists, which is much easier. This denial is not done purposefully, it is done subconsciously. Through psychological factors such as cognitive dissonance, our brain decides for us what we should believe, on an instinctual level. We don't actively choose what to believe, we are influenced in many ways and our beliefs are then formed. Rational judgement of scientific evidence is only one of these influences on our beliefs. In fact, for the case of AGW, I'd even argue that the scientific evidence plays an even smaller part in someone's acceptance. The more complex a topic is, the harder it is to rationally judge the scientific evidence, therefore we use other methods to subconsciously decide what to believe. Before someone can confidently say they accept or don't accept AGW for rational reasons, they must first honestly admit that they have seen, and understand, the relevant scientific evidence. But most people, myself included, can be intimidated by all the climate models, core samples, and temperature charts that are tossed around. Because of this intimidation, we turn to other non-rational belief influences.

I have not yet seen Al Gore's Nobel prize winning film ';An Inconvenient Truth';. I'm not sure why. Maybe it's because I was a AGW skeptic when it came out and now that I accept AGW I don't feel the need to go rent it. Regardless, I think the title is brilliant. It perfectly sums up why I think people have trouble accepting AGW. AGW truly is an inconvenience. If it were true, not only would we have to consume less, but more importantly it can shake our very core beliefs. The sorts of beliefs that AGW would trouble include political/economic and religious beliefs. I won't judge these core beliefs that people have, but they are key to understanding why AGW is doubted. Just as a religious world view could cause someone to not accept evolution, it too can make them less likely to accept AGW. One of these religious views holds that nature exists for humanity's benefit, and therefore, is at our whim and cannot pose danger to us.

AGW poses a direct threat to some forms libertarianism and right-wing capitalism. I think that this may have played a strong role in my personal AGW skepticism, and perhaps in other libertarians. As I discussed in a previous blog post, values can determine whether someone considers themselves a libertarian, liberal, conservative, etc. One important value of libertarianism is the desire for smaller government. This rubs up against the problem of AGW. If the problem of AGW is real, and if we have any hope of solving it, we would most likely require development of gross regulations from governments. This is exactly what is going on right now in Copenhagen. Those who fIs critical thinking the key to curing global warming denialism?
Kudos for Abrahms for having what it takes to admit he was wrong. Unfortunately, I don't think he's typical of the denier crowd. They are sticks-in-the-mud and proud of it. I'm not very tolerant of willful ignorance when it impacts my life in a negative fashion.

I didn't see Gore's movie til late in the game, but I do recommend you see it so you know what all the fuss is about. I came away impressed, overall.

I remember encountering a libertarian in junior college years and years ago, and listening patiently to his passionate appeal to join him in his belief system. But by the time he'd finished, I remember thinking very clearly that this system of belief was flawed and not for me. Your last full paragraph is a powerful one, worthy of reading over again and reflecting on it, no matter where you stand. Is critical thinking the key to curing global warming denialism?
    No common sense is.
    YES
    Yeah.

As a ';critical thinker'; I'm inclined to ask the following regarding a scientific conclusion:

    Where is your original data?

    How was it collected?

Is there other data that you didn't incorporate? Why?

Did you adjust the original data? If so, did you document why?

And the last question: Why, in the name of all that is sacred, would you NOT provide all of that in order to showcase your findings in the brightest light?
No, critical thinking is the key to extricating the masses of brainwashed dupes from the Warmist cult.
Wow. In his whole rant, the author didn't offer up an ounce of scientific proof. Instead offering up his opinion, which is what bloggers do. And the blogger comes from that so conservative part of the country, San Francisco.
Yes. It is the flat out refusal to read the science because they don't like the economics.
    Total Bull.

Typical liberal. No facts. Just feelings. He based his decision on what?
I think the cure will come once we have some actual science applied to the investigation. Actual science isn't about hiding data or black box computer models generating an artificial consensus.

The truth will eventually be known. But I don't think we know it now. That is why you have true believers and deniers because we don't have knowers.
Chicken little is right this time.THE SKY IS FALLING.Take it from a guy that been around for 73 years, change is coming, and I don't mean Obama's change.I've been an outdoors man 60 of my 73 years, and have seen many species disappear.A big change is coming. Will it be as drastic as the tree huggers claim? I don't know, and probably won't be around to find out.
Yes, but the key is getting deniers to think critically in the first place. Critical thought is exactly what denial prevents.

Abrams is willing to keep an open mind, examine his own biases, and prevent them from ultimately biasing his conclusions. That's the sign of a true skeptic. But as we all know, deniers aren't skeptics, as their answers to this question make painfully obvious. Calling him a liberal, claiming he's from San Francisco which *obviously* makes him delusional about AGW, etc.
    Alas, no.

You can't reason people out of a position they didn't reason themselves into. Abrams is a rare exception.
A very good point. I would agree that critical thinking is always important, whether you are sceptical on AGW or accepting. It doesn't anyone to just parrot a line without every wanting to change your mind.

You should be aware, though, that the website you refer to is the product of a massive corporate PR firm with a very partial agenda - it is NOT an impartial forum . Here's what Dr Richard Lindzen, professor of meteorology at MIT, says about them:

    Environmental Media Services (a project of Fenton Communications, a large public relations firm serving left wing and environmental causes; they are responsible for the alar scare as well as Cindy Sheehan’s anti-war campaign.) created a website, realclimate.org, as an ‘authoritative’ source for the ‘truth’ about climate. This time, real scientists who were also environmental activists, were recruited to organize this web site and ‘discredit’ any science or scientist that questioned catastrophic anthropogenic global warming. The web site serves primarily as a support group for believers in catastrophe, constantly reassuring them that there is no reason to reduce their worrying.';

There are those who will try and claim that a professor of meteorology at the world's leading science university is somehow not in touch with real climate science. Laugh at these people. Point at them and laugh.
If a drunk walked up to me and asked me for money so he could get something to eat I would be skeptical because he's drunk and I know he's going to go out and buy more alchohol.

When AGW alarmist tell me we need money to stop global warming because prostitution in the Philippines is on the rise I'm even more skeptical because I know for a fact prostitution has nothing to do with global warming. There's a reason it's called the worlds oldest profession, and it has nothing to do with global warming.

When an AGW alarmist tells me we need money to stop global warming and the people of Darfur are suffering because we are causing droughts I'm skeptical because I know for a fact that region has suffered droughts for centuries and if you simply take a look at a map it's on the edge of a desert! Besides the fact that they suffer because of a corrupt government that doesn't support their own people with an infrastructure that can sustain the population, and because of religious and tribal feuds.

When AGW alarmist tell me we need money to stop global warming because the Ganges delta is flooding, people living at sea level on atolls are in danger, next hurricane season.. well the next one ... if not this one for sure the next hurricane season is going to be really bad, yes, I'm skeptical.

When common sense makes it's way into the AGW alarmist arguments they might gain some ground. When they start presenting scientific evidence, facts and data instead of preaching how it's obvious that it's CO2 when it's not, I'm so tired of being linked to sites that simply come to the conclusion without showing any evidence and when I am shown evidence I find out it's being modified on the upside to make it appear that it's unprecedented to show the biggest effect. Previous upsides are being eliminated, I'm told about a consensus that only exist among those who are being payed to prove that CO2 is the cause, when I've been shown by scientist reasonable and plausible explanations to the contrary, but I'm then told that those scientist are the stupid ones.

No, my skepticism has nothing to do with the lack of critical thinking.

  • How do I connect to my wireless secure router?

I have Linksys wrt54g. I went in to secure it using the Linksys website as a guide. Accessed my router page, clicked on wireless security and chose WEP from the drop menu, default transmit key = 1, entered a passphrase (ex. 1111111111), then clicked generate, then saved settings.

Ok, then on my laptop when I view wireless networks, next to my network name it says ';the settings on your computer don't match the settings necessary for this network'; or something to that effect. So I go into ';manage wireless networks';, I double click on my network and it brings up the wireless network properties and I click the security tab, I change it to ';shared'; then ';WEP';, under that I enter the same network key (1111111111), and key indes is set to ';1';. I click ok.

Now, I view the networks available, find mine, click it and connect, and it says there is a problem, or it will connect with limitations, or it won't do anything. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. What is funny too is that it doesn't ask me for the password. If I choose someone else's secured network and click connect, the first thing it does is ask me for the password. Why doesn't it do that with mine? Why won't it connect completely? I hope I have been detailed enough, thank you.How do I connect to my wireless secure router?
IF you ';Generate'; a passphrase from the letters you input, the phrase will not be what you entered. When you press ';generate'; it takes what you input and changes the letters to code. The CODE generated is what you need to enter on the laptop.

Log back into the router, write down the code listed in the (1) setting. Then go to your laptop and enter that code.

You should also be aware that wep is not really very secure WPA is a better setting, rather than have the router ';generate'; the pass phrase just enter one directly.. 15-20 characters will be a good length.. a mix of letters and numbers is the best for these passwords. If you directly enter the password you can then use the exact password for connection. How do I connect to my wireless secure router?
Pleaase check IP Address of you notebook

ensure that DNS is available or else

check your router settings of DHCP is on

    if not work then

use WPA+TKIP wireless security option instead of using WEP
    Tracy L has the answer.
I'm having the exact same problem with my Apple Time Capsule

The only solution that has solved it for now was not having any security on, which is what I definitely don't want but is the only way it connects fully.

I think it maybe in the encryption type (TKIP,AES etc) or possibly the security type (WPA, WPA2) am using and what was used to originally set it up with my other router and the Time Capsule uses WPA2.

But I'm still trying to solve it and will get back to you if you haven't found a solution..if you do find one would you please be able to let me know thanks.
i tell u very simple sol.

1..erase all IP and DNS and click on automatically get option.

2..go to modem(adsl) and make its settings on routing (not bridging, bridging means u have to dial from window) its process is to connect cable to modem n other end to ur pc LAN.

3..now connect same cable to router while other end is in pc LAN,and configure its security settings..select WPA2 option which is more secure and its key is not less hackable...then select TKIP and give it some pass phrase.

4..now connect modem with router and let it sync

5..connect to ur router and it shall connect.

6..if still have problem, press the lill button for factory restore of router and configure it again, the purpose of restoring is,to remove any disturbing settings.

    Samsung wifi problems?

i have orange internet and a samsung S5560 phone and i cant get the wifi to work, when i connect it just says authentification failed or no responce from ap, what does this mean?

do i need to change all the settings or should they be right?

and is the network key just your password?

will someone tell me how to set up my wifi in simple terms :)Samsung wifi problems?
Probably you are entering an incorrect password. A secure Wi-Fi connection generally needs only the network key/password to access the network. Recheck the set password for the modem %26amp; type the password correctly using the appropriate case. Also check the signal strength %26amp; ensure that the 802.11b+g mode is selected.

    PLEASE HELP. issues with wireless!!!..?

I have an airport, and lots of macs in the house. they, connect perfectly to the airport. however my one PC, a toshiba, when tries to connect cannot.. and an error message comes up that looks like this: The network password needs to be 40bits or 104bits depending on your network configuration. This can be entered as 5 or 13 ascii characters or 10 or 26 hexadecimal characters.

I have seen the other topics started about this here, at yahoo answers, but changing the WEP Key to hexadecimal and all that stuff makes NO SENSE TO ME.

Can some one please stupify this down to what I need to know, and HOW I do it , please help me fix this?!?!?!PLEASE HELP. issues with wireless!!!..?
it's IRRELEVANT whether your key requirement is hex or ascii. your toshiba will properly encode the WEP key no matter how you enter it.

what might be confusing you is you might have a manufacurer based wireless configurator instead of the stock microsoft ZERO configurator.

however, DO NOT enter a passphrase(password). that's different but rather the key itself. enter as the first key(or key #1)

also deselect the box which may state (key provided for automatically)PLEASE HELP. issues with wireless!!!..?
I think the best way to fix your problem, and make the network far more secure at the same time, is to switch from WEP encryption to WPA (WPA/PSK) encryption.

First, WEP encryption is very unsecure, and can be ';cracked'; by anyone with the right software tools in a matter of minutes (I've seen it done in under 5). This will allow others to gain access to your network, and also to ';intercept'; your transmissions, meaning they can see everything you do on the net.

Second, WPA encryption uses ';keys'; or ';passcodes'; of any length, which will remove your problem of needing 5 or 13 ASCII characters.

FYI - WPA is a much stronger and more secure alternative to WEP. I work in IT for one of Australia's largest banks, and they highly recommend switching to WPA encryption.

There's a guide on the O'Reilly Network here:

    http://www.oreillynet.com/pub/a/wireless

I STRONGLY suggest you switch to WPA using this guide, as WEP encryption is almost useless. As an example, here's a guide on how to crack 128-bit WEP in 60 seconds.

    http://www.shawnhogan.com/2006/08/how-to

I hope you will heed this warning, as you're leaving yourself exposed to anyone that knows how to do a google search for crackining WEP-secured networks. They can see everything you do online, and can even perform an SSL main-in-the-middle attack to obtain your encrypted Internet banking details.

    PS3 connectivity and other stuff?

I have a lot of questions about my ps3's connections and how to set them up. I tried to look for sites that explain it more but i couldn't find much.

    1) Is it possible to use the ps3 as an access point for a psp to get on the net w/o remote play? I've done a scan with it and it picks up the ps3 signal but i can never use it.

1.1) If i changed the wpa key, would that allow me to use it or would it only affect remote play?

    2) What is the point of remote play? I tried it and I couldn't play games; only use internet or chat.

2.1) Can remote play ever play games?

    3) What does life with playstation do to your ps3? I read the tiny description and though it said you can use it to see the news and stuff like it, it said that it becomes part of a network. Could someone be able to get onto my ps3 and mess it up or does the network invade privacy?

4)How do you download videos/movies directly to the hdd? I read somewhere that you may need to create a file in the hdd, how do you do that? Which sites can you download from?

    5) Which sites can you directly download music from for free?

    6) How, if possible, can you connect the ps3 to your computer? And what could you do when connected?

    7) How does the hdd get upgraded? And what would it be able to do once it is?Can an upgrade for the 40gb allow reverse compatibility?

    8) How, besides extra memory, is the 160gb model better than the others?

    9) How do you switch the os?

9.1) What benefits/disadvantages can switching the os have?

Please include instructions and be detailed. I konw that this may be asking too much and i apologize for it. Thank you all!PS3 connectivity and other stuff?
    1) Yes. If you can get an Access Point for your PSP to have internet, and have set Remote Play up correctly, then you can use the PS3's web browser to surf the web.

    2) The point of remote is that you can access your Photos, Music, Videos and view friends from somewhere else in the world. It's a way of entertaining yourself.

2.1) You can't play any PS3 games on the PSP. You can some PSP games on the PS3 though. Nothing will change with the PSP-GO. It uses the same OS as the current PSP-3000.

    3) Life at PlayStation contributes to helping a university complete their research on something. You can use it to see the news, the weather - all live. NO ONE can get into your PS3 with Life At PlayStation. It isn't possible.

    4) On some sites, you can download videos. You can try and download videos on the PS3 and it will save it AUTOMATICALLY to a folder named something. e.g: ';July 2009...'; et.

    5) I'm not sure.

    6) You can't connect it a computer. You can connect it to a computer moniter though with a VGA to HDMI convertor.

7)You can swap the PS3's HDD for a bigger HDD with more space. This space allows you to store more video, pictures and music. It will also let you save more game data.

Upgrading to a 40GB HDD will NOT give you backwards. Backwards compatility is all in the Hardware. The PS3 uses software emulation to play PS2 games. It won't come in the HDD.

    8) The only good thing about the 160GB model is the extra space. Nothing else. It's not really special than the other models. I think it comes with a game included. I'm not sure.

    9) You can download Yellow Dog Linux to install on the PS3. Doing this will erase your PS3 OS.

9.1) It depends what you want it to do.

One thing - you can't use the PS3 controller for another OS on the PS3. You must use a Keyboard and mouse.

You're welcome.PS3 connectivity and other stuff?
Yes i will also just take my two to
    1) I don't know

    2) with the PSP GO! maybe

    3) I think that is how Playstation Home displays.

    4) You purchase them from the PSN, or you copy them from an external HDD.

    5) not answering

    6) you need a capture card, you would use your PS3's default av connectors, and plug them to the capture card rather than the tv.

    7) You simply slide the hard drive out the left side (from the front view), and put a bigger one in. (memory, not physical size)

    - No you cannot swap the hdd for backwards compatibility. The compatibility is not stored on the hdd, it's on the mb.

    8) no the 160gb is other than the hdd identical to the 40gb and the 80gb g2 (not motorstorm or metal gear solid). The 60gb and the 80gb (motorstorm or metal gear bundle) are the best models, they have the card reader, 4 usb slots, PS2 compatibiltiy, etc)

    9) You simply burn a PS3 Ubuntu iso to the disk, place it into the ps3's disk drive. Go under system, there should be a install other OS somewhere in the sub menus. The benefit is that you get FireFox, much better browser. Disadvantage is the ram limit, the PS3 doesn't have a whole lot of it.
1.-2.1- I don't know much about remote play. Just that you can't use it as a controller for games and you can get PSP stuff on the PSN and download it to your PSP.

3.- Life with Playstation is basically what the old Folding @Home is. You contribute your PS3 power to servers for calculations and things like that. Its for a good cause and no one will invade your privacy. It also gives you news from major cities around the world. Its powered by Google and Google Earth.

    4.- I don't download videos so I dunno.

5.- That is illegal and your ISP may report you to authorities if you do it often enough. I do not know of any site that allows free downloads to the PS3.

6.- You can sync your PS3 with a PC to transfer media files to the PS3.

7.- The process on hard drive swaps can be Googled. I believe Sony includes instructions as well. Any 2.5 SATA laptop hard drive that spins at 5400 RPMs works. Hard drive upgarade has nothing to do with reverse compatibility in any way.

8.- It isn't. Well, it includes Uncharted, but that's it.

9.- Linux is the only other OS you can install. If you have a PC, don't bother installing Linux on your PS3. The PS3 may act like a PC, but its far from being one.
1:no 2:u can control basic functions of your ps3 nd play ps1 games 3:life with playstation contributes to some hospitals network 2 find cures for diseases 4:havent a clue 5:now dats illegal so i wouldent know 6:u can share music, video and picture between pc nd ps3 7:you have to actualy change the hard drive at the side to give you more memory u cannot get backward comp by doing this 8:dont think so 9:very complicated not going to explain 9.1:u dont switch op you install another os e.g lineux

PS3 network settings.... please read further..?

hello, i was trying to set up my network then i got to the WLAN security part. Then I chose WEP key, then i entered it. Guess what...... its invalid... it says that my password are less than 10... then there are sayings like this ';For hexadecimal use 10 or 26 characters from the ranges of 0-9, a-f. and A-F. For ASCII use 5 or 13 characters.'; what the hell's that suppose to mean??? how can i change from hexadecimal to ASCII?? is it automatic and stuff or what??

I know this is challenging.... but please help me.... helping is caring...PS3 network settings.... please read further..?
The wireless router that is connected to your broadband modem (DSL or cable) will not let a wireless device connect to it unless that device transmits the correct password, or key. The key is used to prevent unauthorized people that are within range of your network from trying to connect to it.

You need to open the router's configuration page from a connected computer to not only find out what the key is, but also to see what type of encryption the router is using. It could be using WEP, WPA-PSK, etc.

When you find out the encryption type, you specify that in the PS3 settings and then supply the key that was also listed in the router configuration page. Don't confuse the ';passphrase'; with the ';key';, the key is what the PS3 needs.PS3 network settings.... please read further..?
I have two suggestions for you.

    1. Add an XXX's or Zeros to the password to make it 10 digits. I read this elsewhere and maybe it will work for you.

    2. Change the password on the wireless router to be 10 digits long.

Why can't I stay connected to my Verizon WIFI?

I keep getting disconnected from my Verizon wifi for no apparent reason. It will say I'm connected to local and internet, but none of my programs that use the internet will work. I have to go to my network icon, disconnect, right click on the connection, click properties, and re-type in my WEP key to get it to work. And sometimes I have to do this process two or three times before it will finally work. And then a few hours later, or after I reboot I have to go in and re-type the WEP key again! Every few hours I have to reset the damn key! Verizon had me do everything in the book. I reset the router, I unplugged the power cord for a few seconds, I've unplugged the co-ax on both ends and plugged them back in. Verizon reset the whole fios connection from their end, they don't know what to do they tell me it must be something on my computer that's changing my WEP key. What could be changing my WEP key? That makes sense though, because my friends laptop could connect and stay connected fine. My desktop computer works fine through the Ethernet cable so I know it's not the router. What can I do to figure out what's resetting my WEP key, and what can I do to fix it? I have really good virus protection, and I don't download things from sites I don't trust so I don't see how it could be anything malicious. This problem is getting really annoying lol. If none of you know how to fix it could you at least direct me to a forum with people who might know how to help me?Why can't I stay connected to my Verizon WIFI?
How come your using Wifi Have you tried to directly plug your computer into the Verizon Router? See if your connection works this way. There probably is something on your computer thats unchecked thats used to store the wifi Password I've seen it before. Here is what i would do. I would Remove the WIFI adapter Uninstall the software used for said adapter.

    Restart computer

    reinstall wifi Adapter.

    Resetup connection.

    Network encryption problem. Help!?

My network encryption is set to wpa+psk.

There are times that my laptop fails to connect to my router and windows is giving me a ';network validation failed'; message. By checking my network connection properties and under wireless network authentication of my set SSID. I found out that my encryption wpa-psk had changed to wep automatically.

And when I change it back to wpa-psk it just keep on changing back to wep. What I have to do is to uninstall wireless driver/restart/reinstall wireless driver then set my SSID and my key manually again to reconnect to my router.

So my question is how can I prevent my encryption type from changing automatically so that I can avoid my time from being wasted?Network encryption problem. Help!?
Some older wireless cards have trouble supporting the newer WPA-PSK from WEP. I would look at making sure you have the newest drivers. check the website.

Also the wireless card could have its own management and you could use that as well.

What model is the wireless card?Network encryption problem. Help!?
firstly i'd change the routers access password if its changing from WPA to WEP this is lowering your protection, so someone could be hacking in and changing this

How do i reset my wireless internet passphrase?

I wanna hook my laptop up 2 my pc's wireless network but dont have the passphrase or security key is there any chance i can change the settings on my pc that would allow my laptop to use the wireless or do i have to reset the passphrase? and how would i do this?

(please note i am not a computer genius so could u please explain in simple english)How do i reset my wireless internet passphrase?
On the bottom of your router there should be a default user name and password (assuming you havent change it) along with a number (for example 192.168.1.1). Open Internet Explorer, and type the number in. It should take you to a log in page. Enter the user name and password , and there should be a link somewhere on there for your wireless internet. Each brand, and model is a little different, so it might take some looking.

Make the changes, then save the changes you made and log out.How do i reset my wireless internet passphrase?

    WPA2 Password Key Length?

Does the length of a WPA2 password key affect wireless network performance? I had a 64 character password set up originally and could no longer get my 4 year old wireless laptop to connect. Then I changed it to a 20 character password and it seems to be working OK for now (though it did connect when I first set up my 64 character password). Does a 64 character WPA2 password equal 504bit encryption? Does a 20 character WPA2 password equal 128bit encryption? How does this work?WPA2 Password Key Length?
The maximum password length is 64 characters which equals 256 bits (64 x 4). Anything less will equal weaker encryption (see below for what I mean by weaker).

The problem is most likely the client's implementation of WPA2 (the Nintedo Wii for instance requires a password length of exactly 13 characters in WEP to work). Perhaps there's a software/driver update available for your laptop's NIC?

I'm guessing there's a standard padding involved if you use less than 64 hex characters so that it's always operating in 256 encryption mode... (although brute-force attacks will be easier the shorter the password is).

Here's a link explaining how easy it is to crack WPA2: http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/content/v

  • Nintendo DS Wireless, Router, WEP Key?

I used to be able to connect my DS to the internet through my Wi-Fi Connector, but ever since we got a wireless router, I can't. It now only finds the wireless network, which is locked down. It wants a WEP key, and I know how to get the WEP key through the router gateway.

But if I actually get one, does it change how the other wireless computer connect? Will I have to add in the WEP key for every connection?

I try not to mess around with other computers in the house except mine, and I know it would not be appreciated if I changed the net settings like this if it meant it interferes with other connections, despite how small it is.Nintendo DS Wireless, Router, WEP Key?
The WEP key is the same at each computer and is only entered once until it is changed again at the wireless router. Then it would need to be changed at all the computers again.

It doesn't need to be entered each time you loginNintendo DS Wireless, Router, WEP Key?
If your router is password protected, you will have to enter the password for every wireless device you wish to connect. You'll have to reset the password if you don't remember it and make sure to write it down, then enter the new passowrd for every wireless device.

How do I get a multilayer LAN match over the same wireless network working?

My friend and I are both on the same wireless network (i.e. we're about 10 feet apart), and we're interesting playing a 2-player LAN match of C%26amp;C3: Tiberium Wars. We disabled our firewalls, and we can see each other on the WINDOWS network. However, when we go into the C%26amp;C3 multilayer mode in ';Network play';, we can't see each others computers.

We were able to have matches before, so we know its just a configuration issue. One of the key differences between last time and this time is that under OPTIONS - NETWORK in the game, we were both able to change our IP from the regular home address of 192.168.1.xx to something like 169.254.x.x , this time, only my computer can, and his cannot. Both of these IP address have significance (i.e. they are not random), so Im guessing its an configuration issue.

The issue isn't only native to Command and Conquer, and is probably the same for any other programs or games as well. Therefore, your expertise in networking is appreciated. Thanks! How do I get a multilayer LAN match over the same wireless network working?
you should both have similar ip addresses. your friend's account must be limited or has a virus that he can't change his ip. have that checked.

How can i change the internet settings on a toshiba satellite pro from wep to wpa?

I have recently inherited a toshiba satellite pro laptop from a friend as my current laptop is about to die on me - even the shift key barely works now hence the lack of capital letters! I have a sky broadband connection which is currently using wap-psk. This works on the nearly defunct laptop, my wii and ipod touch. However the only way i can connect the toshiba to the wireless network is with a wep key. I have asked sky broadband and the woman said that if i convert the router to wep it won't work on my other devices.

i am almost albeit not completely computer illiterate. is there any way of changing the satellite pro to use wpa rather than wep? or is there something i can plug into it to convert it? thanksHow can i change the internet settings on a toshiba satellite pro from wep to wpa?
As said above, your only choices are to use an external Wifi USB adapter or change the mini PCI wireless card inside the laptop to one that supports WPA.

HTHHow can i change the internet settings on a toshiba satellite pro from wep to wpa?
You can buy a wireless usb adaptor.I assume your router is a netgear,so get a netgear adaptor. This will have wpa ability.Or you can get a wireless card
You mentioned Sky Broadband, so I assume you're in the UK.

It's possible that the driver for the built-in wireless section of your Toshiba Satellite Pro simply needs to be updated in order to support WPA, or possibly even WPA2. If that is the case, you'll be able to switch to WPA without paying for any new hardware, so it's worth a try.

Fill in the exact details of your Toshiba here and get the wireless driver download:

    http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/i

(Under Product Type, select Notebooks - it means laptop.)

If after installing the latest driver the Toshiba still won't connect using WPA, then I suggest you phone Toshiba for advice. The Satellite Pro is a current model, so there's no reason why it should not work with WPA. Only very very old equipment works with WEP and nothing else.

NOTE: The most important reason for not switching your router to WEP is that WEP is the oldest and weakest method of wifi security, and can be cracked very very easily by hackers, potentially giving them full access to everything on your network, and allowing them to find personal information on hard disks (e.g. credit card numbers used previously for online transactions). So stick with WPA!

    Xbox 360 Wireless Adapter problems!?

    Hi,

I bought a new Xbox 360 recently and have only recently got the wireless adapter for it. When I plug it in the red light is on and I can find my network but when I enter my WEP key the page just closes and sends me back to the basics settings menu and it says ';not connected';, it doesnt even show an error message...

i have tried everything from opening ports, changing the WEP key, trying it with no internet security, mac addresses, etc. but it still has the same response of shutting the page and going back to basic settings...

Does anybody know how to fix this or do I need to send the adapter back?

Send it back..get your XBOX 360..chuck it on the floor..stamp on it.. laugh.. go buy a PS3..live happily evr after :)Xbox 360 Wireless Adapter problems!?
Have you tryed resetting your Router, unplugging your routers power cord, or restarting your Modem?
All I can think of is your Router is Denying your XBOX's access.

I would either contact Linksys support or Microsoft support, or just play around with your router setings till it works.
    What Akii said :P
Don't use WEP. Use WPA at a minimum. WPA2 is the best.

Anyway, it sounds like you might need to change your wireless channel or clone your MAC address of the card in the router. Change the wireless channel to 1, 6, or 11 only.

If that doesn't work, you should look into powerline. Check these links out:

    http://images.bestbuy.com/BestBuy_US/en_

    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/NETGEAR+-+Po

Now I run both powerline and wireless. Powerline is as simple as plugging it in. There is no drivers or software to load. The nice thing about powerline is that it seems to be as reliable as connecting to the router as far as not going down. Also, it eliminates the bad security issues wireless has. Security can easily be enabled if you are worried about your outdoor power outlets by pressing a button.

How to set up a password for wireless network?

I am so very confused so please bear with me and if you feel you can help me, please try and make the directions clear as possible!

I recently set up a wireless network and set up a router to make it wireless. The router was a Belkin. I went through the set up steps on the start up disk to set a password for our connection, and thought it was successful but when I view my list of available networks it says mine is unprotected. This is an issue because I live in an apartment complex and need to keep everyone from stealing our signal. So how would I go about setting up a password? This is what I have tried so far:

    - Under Wireless Network Connection Properties I selected my network and clicked on Properties

    - Under properties Data Encryption is set to DISABLED

Every time I try to change it to WEP I either can't figure out which number it is asking for as a password OR I select the ';The key is provided for me automatically'; it always changes right back to DISALED.

What am I doing wrong? I just want to protect my connection and thought I had already done it, but apparently I have set passwords for other things.

  • BT Home Hub WEP Key?

I am trying to connect my Wii to my wireless network. Although in the past I have always set up my own networks and encryption, my current network and BT Home HUB was set up by a BT engineer, and I have no idea what the passkey or passphrase is, and I need to enter this into the Wii to connect. Can anyone tell me how I can find out or change/disable the passkey on my BT network? I have also emailed this question to BT, but anyone who has dealt with BT will understand why I am also posting the question here!BT Home Hub WEP Key?
On my hub it is on the back on the sticker.BT Home Hub WEP Key?
the WEP key is on the back of the hub on a label
There is a sticker on the back near the lifting flap. You'll see the WEP key on there. I suggest that you make a note of it in case the sticker falls off.
Hahaha BT helll yeah we know.

It is on the back of your home hub on a sticker near the bottom.

    You cant miss it.

It will have your hub number on that sticker and then your WEP, cant miss it ;)
Unless you didn`t know, it`s on the back of your Hub.....

    ROFLMFAO :-)

May a computer networking genius, geek or professional please tell me of a way to bypass this wireless blockade?

Bitcomet, bittorrent and uttorrent are always telling me their ports are blocked. Bitcomet is always saying listening port blocked no matter which port number I try to insert(I have tried all ports that you could). I think the ISP is blocking them but I wonder how come all. You see I cannot do port forwarding because I have not access to the router. I am using WINDOWS XP SERVICE PACK 2. The IP addresses to the network changes with every connection(dynamic IP).

I have asked this question alot here but no one seems to figure a way out. So please ask it for me elsewhere.

I think the key ponts here is that I am using public wifi and windows xp service pack 2. Help me pleaseMay a computer networking genius, geek or professional please tell me of a way to bypass this wireless blockade?
If you cant port forward then how are you opening all the ports possible? This can only be done by portforwarding in your router. Your computer cant open a router port sorry.May a computer networking genius, geek or professional please tell me of a way to bypass this wireless blockade?
HEY MAN I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE DAT YOU TRIED 65535 DIFFERENT PORT NUMBERS.

BUT YO IF YOU DON'T HAVE ACCESS TO DA ROUTER THEN DERE AIN'T NOTHIN' NOBODY CAN DO FOR YOU YO. I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND TORRENTIN ON A PUBLIC CONNECTION ANYWAY YO, DAT'S JUST NOT SMART.

ALSO, LOTS OF ISP'S FILTER PACKETS WITH TORRENT PROTOCOL SO IF IT AIN'T THE ROUTER BLOCKIN YOU IT'S THE ISP, THEY DON'T GOTTA BLOCK ALL THE PORTS.
If you cannot forward any of your ports or access the router or firewall then I do not believe that you will be able to acomplish much.

Windows firewall will not help you any, but check to see if the torrent client is blocking the program (sometimes we kill ourselves when the solution to our problems are quite simple.)

I agree that there are many, many port numbers which all generally serve a specific function. When the torrent client gives you a message if will be quite a generic one, so yes, changing the port number will not allow you to access the P2P program. go to portforward.com or google the ports that can be used for a torrent program %26amp; see if you have any luck.

Otherwise you are being blocked and will need to contact your administrator.

I amyself are a Network Administrator and block torrent programs from users, they would need certain credentials or my permission before attempting to access certian programs or websites. Good luck.

XP connecting wirelessly to WEP network with Linksys?

Okay, I don't know a lot about the intricacies of connecting to the internet or of routers. I have a WRT54G v6. We have two computers- a dell desktop running Vista and my laptop running XP. I went to the setup page to change the router's security settings to WEP, because I'd just read that Nintendo DS's only connect to networks with WEP. I was able to play with it wirelessly fine after that. I was also still online with the Vista, which is connected with LAN through the router and modem. My laptop, however, doesn't want to connect to the WEP network wirelessly. It doesn't ask me to type in a key when I try to connect. I went to advanced settings, selected the network, and tried typing in the key there too but that didn't work either. Perhaps I'm missing something. I could just switch back and forth between WPA and WEP for whenever I want to play my DS online, but still, does anyone know how I might just connect to the WEP on my laptop anyway?XP connecting wirelessly to WEP network with Linksys?
You need to go to the card's connection program and search for your network, try looking for a profile name and delete the old profile. Then do a search and select your own network, it will either have an automatic key insertion, or a configuration setting for a new profile. You will probably need to tell it the connection is WEP, some cards also require the key to be inserted in 2 digit groups, e.g. :

for a key of a3e2f4 you would need to enter :

    a3 e2 f4

I advise using 128 bit WEP, it is not as secure as WPA, but is fine for normal use, and a 36 character hex code entered manually is more secure than a badly chosen simple WPA passkey.

Do NOT just delete your wireless connection, this is often given as a cure all answer, you end up with a network connection called something like Local Area Connection 5 after 5 attempts, and this is because it leaves traces of previous connections behind.

A few cards are even case sensitive and will require the hex letters entered in upercase.XP connecting wirelessly to WEP network with Linksys?
Delete the wireless network on your laptop and then try to connect to the router again. Windows machines save a profile of the wireless network and try to use the same settings as when it first manages to connect until you delete the profile. WEP is a terrible encryption and takes less than 10 minutes to break and gain the security key. I'd strongly suggest using WPA encryption on your router and getting an access point that can be configured for WEP for the DS to connect to so the access point can be unplugged from your network when you're not using it.

Accessing Hidden SSID in Windows Vista... Please help!?

Does anyone know how to access a hidden SSID (I know the name and key) in Windows Vista?

I just set up a triple boot with XP, Vista, and Ubuntu and both XP and Ubuntu access my network just fine, but no matter what I do in Vista, it wont let me access it.

    I've tried typing it in manually, but it tells me ';network already exists'; and gives me 2 options, one to ';choose existing network'; which brings up a list of only visible SSID's (not the one i need) and the other option is something like ';change the network name';

Or, alternatively is there a good wireless connection manager i can download to us in place of the default manager in Vista that would do the trick?

Thanks in advance!Accessing Hidden SSID in Windows Vista... Please help!?
Log onto the router, set the ssid to show and then connect. You can always turn it back to hidden afterwards, but it is NOT an increase in security, a wireless sniffer can find it.

How do i access my Linksys BEFSR41 router settings?i've tried everything.it wont let my 360 connect to network?

I'm trying to connect my Xbox 360 to my PC, so i can share pictures/etc.

i have fallowed ALL the troubleshooting for both the 360's end, Windows Media Center, and my Windows Vista based computer (Home Premium).

i have checked my firewalls, and all i have is the basic Windows one on. i also fallowed the troubleshooting to double check i have it set to allow stuff to connect. so THAT'S ok.

i have Media Sharing on, under the Network and Sharing Center.

    i have Network Discovery on.

    Media Center Extenders is checked.

the firewall is NOT blocking all connections.

of course everything is plugged into the same router, the Linksys BEFSR41.

On Windows Media Center, im getting the message:

    Extender Not Found

Setup could not find your Extender. Verify the following:

-Your Extender is on and connected to the same network as this computer

    -Your setup key is correct

-Your firewall is set up to allow UPnP discovery

i have done all that, accept the UPnP thing. becuase i dont know what that means.

also, the Xbox 360 is saying to open certain ports on my router.

so after hours of searching, i have found MANY Answers saying i need to go to http://192.168.1.1/ and enter admin as the user name and password.

i have tried the following combination many times:

    User Name: admin

    Password: admin

    User Name:

    Password: admin

    User Name: admin

    Password:

and then i once read the User Name was username...i even tried that with admin password. AND NONE OF IT WORKED. never works.

i dont remember ever changing the password or User Name for it, so i dont know why its not letting me in.

im assuming i need to log in on http://192.168.1.1/ and change the settings on there to allow my 360 to connect to my PC.

my PC doesnt even see my 360 in the Network.

and one more thing, that i think i can change: my 360 keeps telling me my NAT is ';Moderate';...and it does effect me sometimes, stopping me from joining people.

(im thinking about just saying eff it and buy a new router)

  • Why won't this work, How to manually connect to Wireless network not broadcasting SSID?

I do not won't my ssid to be broadcasting, but I cannot get this to work, everything is set up right but cannot get this to get on line

    using delink wireless -625 router

To manually add a Wireless network onto your Windows Vista, please try the following:

    1. Click Start - Control Panel

    2. Click “View network status and tasks” (in classic view double-click Network and Sharing Center )

    3. From Network and Sharing Center left pane, click “Manage wireless Networks”

    4. Click Add and then “Manually create Network profile“.

    5. Enter the Network name (SSID) then the security type (ex: WEP,WPA,WPA-2)

    6. Select Encryption Type (ex: AES or PSK)

    7. Enter the Security Key/Passphrase. Optionally check the “Display characters” to display the security key that you type in.

    8. To connect automatically to this network, check the box for “Start this connection automatically”

    9. The next option is the key here. Check the box for “Connect if the network is not broadcasting” to connect to a network which doesn’t broadcast, in otherwords, you don’t find this network in the available network list.

    10. In the next screen, select “Change connection settings” and choose “Connect automatically when network is in range”

This should help you connect to a Wireless network which doesn’t broadcast its SSID.Why won't this work, How to manually connect to Wireless network not broadcasting SSID?
Turn on your SSID, make sure it is not the default one from the router maker.

Now you can find and configure your wireless for your encryption.

If you have MAC address validation set on your router (you should), be sure to put the MAC address of the wireless port of the pc you wish to permit access in the router MAC validation table. A common error is to put the MAC address of the wired port which does not help at all.

Once all works and configuration is saved on the pc, then shut down SSID.

Why is it that I cannot connect my laptop to wireless internet?

I had finally connected my laptop to wireless internet and now I no longer can connect. I have cable internet connection to my PC, I installed a wirless G router, I had finally connected my laptop to wireless internet but the connection was unsecure. I did the necessary to secure it entering a password and now I get a message saying: This computer is connected to(network name) butr does not have access to the internet. This might be caused by an incorrect WEP key or low wireless signal strength.) I know I have a strong signal for I right beside the router and I see the signal symbol is at maximum. I copied and pasted the WEP key. If necessary, how can I change eht WEP key? Please help....Why is it that I cannot connect my laptop to wireless internet?
if you have to change the WEP key get you CD and put it into the laptop i had the same problem you have to hook it up to the router with the enthernet cable because you have to get on a web site but it does this for you can also check the internet for this info by taking you enthernet cable and pluging it into your laptop from your router

DSi can connect to WPA Connection but not through Mario Kart?

Alright, so I can connect to my WPA network through my DSi but when I play some games, it doesn't seem to be able to connect to it - it only allows WEP networks. For example, I load up Mario Kart and go to the Wi-Fi settings, there is no way I can get to the Advanced Setup section which is how I connect to a WPA connected. Also, if there is no way, how do I change our security key from WPA to WEP? I know it is unreliable but I've been inside our Router and there is no option to change it unlike our old one. Thanks in Advance!DSi can connect to WPA Connection but not through Mario Kart?
Well if you can't enable WEP in your router then that basically leaves you with the choice of disabling WPA security altogether, at least temporarily while gaming. You can however stay secure by disabling WPA and then ENABLING MAC address filtering. Just enter the MAC addresses of your DSi and all of your PC's into the filter setting then enable it. That way your router will only talk to those devices, period. And you will not have to enter a WPA key.

P.S. Enter the MAC address of your PC's wifi adapter first before you actually enable the filter or else you will essentially be locking yourself out of your router.

And to get your mac address, go to Start/Run and type CMD then press enter. Once the Command prompt box appears type IPCONFIG /ALL then press enter. It will display all of the network adapter settings on your PC, look for your wifi adapter and write down the physical/mac address. It will look something like 00:12:EF:00......and so on.

    Hey,

First thing to do is check if your new computer has a wireless card in it. If it does, then you should see a little icon in your windows taskbar near the volume and time with a little computer and little waves coming out of it.

If you do not have a wireless card:

    1. Plug your modem into the WAN slot of your router.

    2. Plug each computer's ethernet port to one of the available LAN/numbered slots of the router.

    That's it!

If you have a wireless card:

    1. Plug your modem into the WAN slot of your router.

    2. Plus your other computer into one of the slots in the back of yoru router.

    3. The new computer will access your router via wireless.

    a. From your wired computer, open a browser window and type 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 in the address bar. You should be prompted for a username and password. Try blank and 'admin' or 'admin' and 'admin' or 'admin' and 'adminadmin' or combinations of these.

    b. Once logged in, you will have access to the router's configurations. There should be a wizard for you to run. You may also want to do a little research here to make sure you know what you're doing. Only change the wireless settings and put a WEP password.

    c. Your wireless computer should now detect nearby networks and you can click that little computer icon on the taskbar to choose which network to connect to and change other preferences. Choose your network and enter the password in the settings.

    That should be it.

first of reset d cell of a motherboard. if u dont know where d motherboard cell is located than take help of any hardware engineer.this was abt bios password.

now abt windows password. there r always two users who r assigned administrative rights. one is administrator and other is (something else which u hav put during installation, mostly people keep it as own name for example ';jack'; but it can b anything).

if administrator password is changed than login from that other user.

if that other user password is changed than login from administrator account.

this way enter d OS and change d password again (if possible), otherwise keep on using it this way untill ur bro comes back.
Got a screwdriver? Turn off computer, open your case, on the motherboard is a battery (looks like a large watch battery) take it out of the board. Wait about 1 min. and replace it. This will erase all passwords and that's all. If its on a laptop remove the keyboard and look for same but it will have a plug in instead of laying flat on board. That's all tech support does and they charge $100 good luck

How do I connect a laptop with Windows 7 to my wireless network?

We have three computers (2 of which are laptops, all of them on Windows Vista) connected to our wireless network (Orange). I've just been given a new laptop which has Windows 7, and I went to connect it to the internet, typed in the WEP key and it's come up with 'Network Security Key Mismatch'. I assumed the Security Key was the WEP key which I have checked again and again and I'm 100% sure I'm typing it in right. Is this the right code to be using?

I've been searching on the internet for help with this, but I really don't understand computers and a lot of people have been saying something about changing the router's security settings from WPA to WPA2or something... but I don't have a clue how to do this! download this little utility onto one of the vista machines and it will display the WEP for you, so you may be able to tell if you are typing an error

http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/wirelesskeyHow do I connect a laptop with Windows 7 to my wireless network?
I've had this problem with my USB D-Link WiFi adapter. It seems that the drivers supplied with Windows 7 are broken, you may have the same problem. Whenever I use this adapter on a new machine I have to sort this out before it can connect to a secured network without it declaring that the key I gave it is wrong. All I do is to connect it to the router with an Ethernet (LAN) cable and run Windows Update. It'll automatically download a new set of drivers that work, plus any other updates that it needs. Once I've done this it accepts the WEP key without complaint.
just type 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 into your web browser and your login for your router will pop up from there you can find your wep key or you can turn the wep off so your psp will not need a wep key
Be sure you checked the syntax sometimes the ';I'; as in IVAN and lower case L will fool you.

Also try downloading from one of the other PCs the Manual for the router your using. It should give you a heads up on how to change the WEP key if needed.

  • Wireless router and Internet connection problem?

I have a Linksys wireless router, not a very new model, probably a B series one. Anyway, everytime I'm using my laptop in my room connected to the wireless network I've set up, after a few hours, the Internet will suddenly disconnect. When I try to reconnect it via my laptop, it will always say that it couldn't connect because the security key is wrong. However, I don't change my security keys.

The security type for my wireless network is WPA-Personal, and Encryption type is TKIP. The signal status always consistently ranges from Good to Very Good so poor signal isn't the problem.

Need to change my key for the network. I don't have the old one.?

My roomate set our internet up and now he is gone. We need too add more computers to the network but I don't have the key. How do I change it?Need to change my key for the network. I don't have the old one.?
Most routers have a ';Reset'; button, usually on the back. Holding this in for a specified period of time or until a particular light flashes will set the router back to the original factory specs.

The details will be in the router's manual. If you don't have the router's manual, go to the manufacturers web site and input the model number (it's usually on the back or bottom of the router) and you should be able to download the manual which will walk you through the correct steps.

Hope that helps; email me directly if it doesn't

You have to reset your router. You can reset it on the back of the router. There should be a little hole you can stick a needle in there and press it until your router restarts. You cant do this wireless you have to connect to your router with a cat 5 cable then you go open the Internet tab and type in the default IPA address of your router it should take you to the log in page you should know how to get into it its usually in your booklet instructions. you then can change your key and save it. it should have Internet access after you go into your wireless properties and type the key in and encryption type.
Try logging on to the router, you can download the manual for this from the manufacturer's site. Go to wireless scurity and it will show you the key. Do not reset the router until you have the manual, and then only as a last resort. Once reset you need to re-enter the isp information from scratch.
